HOW THE PACK WORKS...
The Common Induction Standards are written in blue
ink.
The NVQ core knowledge is written in black ink.
The pack is divided into 4 units
which cover the 6 induction standards. It is advisable to give the carer
one unit at a time to complete. Once complete they then give it to their
Manager or Trainer to sign off before receiving the next unit.
The units refer to the Yvonne Nolan Health and Social Care text book
level 2 which the carers require to complete the units. One copy of
the Nolan text book comes with this pack
At the beginning of each section the carer will be asked to read a series
of pages from the text book and then complete some questions or case
studies. All the information required will either be in the text book
or the organisations policies and procedures.
Each carer will need their copy of the GSCC code of practice that they
were given when they commenced employment as a health and social care
worker
(The only part of the CIS this pack does not cover is practical Moving
and Handling.)
Whilst also covering the CIS this pack is formatted
to cover the 4 core units of the HSC NVQ2. The advantage of this is
that whilst the carer is completing the CIS they are also covering the
underpinning knowledge for the NVQ HSC level 2 , i.e. Units HSC 21,22,23,24.
If the person signing off the units is an NVQ Assessor (D32/33 or A1)
then the evidence can be directly accepted for the candidate's NVQ.
If the person signing is not an NVQ Assessor then once these 4 Units
are completed they can be presented to their Assessor when the candidate
registers for their NVQ to be assessed as part of evidence for the HSC
NVQ Level2
The carer will not be duplicating work and there will only be two optional
units for the carer to complete the underpinning knowledge and for the
Assessor to assess.
