Frequently asked questions about CQC Registration
If your business is going to be carrying out a regulated activity and is based in England you are required to register with the CQC.
I am a Qualified Nurse and plan to open a Domiciliary Care Business and be the Registered Manager, I have never worked in care so will my nursing experience and qualifications be sufficient to get through the CQC registration process?
Unlikely. You must have experience of managing a similar type of service, even with a nursing degree this will not be sufficient, ideally you need at least one years’ experience either as a RM or a deputy. You will also need a formal management qualification at level 5 in Health and Social Care Management. You do not have to have completed the course to start the registration process but must provide evidence to the CQC that you have enrolled.
I have been a care worker for many years but have no management experience, I want to open up a care business and plan to be the registered manager, will my care experience be sufficient to complete CQC registration?
The knowledge and experience you have gained as a care workers will be valuable assets, but if you have no management experience or formal management qualification you will not be deemed suitable for the Registered Managers post. However, having experience is preferable but you can register to do the Level 5 In Health and Social Care Management qualification. Depending on your knowledge and experience CQC may consider your application. You do not have to have completed the course to start the CQC registration process but must provide evidence to the CQC that you have enrolled.
