Hi please Im on question 12 how can you support clients to
a)contribute to assessments and reviews
b)express their needs and preferences
c)understand and take responsibility for promoting their own health and care
d)identify how their care needs should be met
e)assess and manage risks to their health and well being

I work with clients with severe learning disabilities who do not communicate verbally have limited to no comprehension of taking responsibility for their own health and care so am stumped on how I can apply this to my clients so far I thought.....................

a)ensure communication aids are available, ensure reviews are in a pcp way
b)look at care plans ask key people like family observe clients learn their likes/dislikes and make sure it is recorded
c)????????????
d)talk to other agencies g.p,family etc ??????
e)?risks assessments in care plans but how can I support clients??????

Appreciate any advice on this thanks

Hi flick24,

Good responses so far. You are really making a good effort to answer these questions yourself.

There will be some that don't generally apply to your individuals so say so. For example, with 'e' risk assessments are the way you support clients because they can't assess and and manage risks themselves but in those risk assessments you make sure that they are supported to be as independent as possible.

For 'c' again they may not be able to fully understand so say so. However by having routines at meal times, bath time, bedtime etc you are supporting them to have some understanding of their own health and care.

Hope that helps
