Hi wanda,

Duty of care is the obligation to exercise a level of care towards an individual, as is reasonable in all the circumstances, to avoid injury to that individual or his/her property.

It is supported through legislation such as the Health and Safety Act and the Health and Social Care Act..

You must:
Always act in the best interests of the clients & their care needs
Let no act or omission on your part be detrimental to their care
Act within your competence and decline to take on something if you do not believe that you can safely expedite it.
Keep knowledge & skills up to date
Provide service at the standard of the reasonable person
Know what must be done to ensure that the service can be provided safely
Keep accurate records as appropriate
Only delegate work or accept it when it is safe to do so
Protect confidential information except where it conflicts with public interest or safety.

Hope that helps

It is important that you know what your duty of care is ….so look at how your organisation ensures practice is safe and ensures peoples safety is always considered, this may be through safeguarding procedures, mental capacity assessments, handling complaints and codes of practice.

So think and write about some of these processes in your workplace.

Kind regards
