Hi, residential/care homes providing catering services are classed as a food business and as such need to be registered with their local authority. These regulations set out both general and specific hygiene requirements that must be complied with.
General requirements include:

premises must be kept clean and maintained in
good repair and condition

equipment must be maintained in good order and
appropriately cleaned and disinfected

staff are required to follow good personal hygiene
practice

staff must receive adequate instruction and/or
training in food hygiene, and must be supervised

Specific hygiene requirements include:

compliance with microbiological criteria
compliance with temperature control requirements
maintenance of the cold chain
