Why is it important that the social care worker works in a person centred way

Explain why the social care worker has to gain their consent
I figured you hve to ask their permission to do something in their house their space ect but I can't think of anything else.

Please help I am very stuck

Hello,
Because the service user needs to be at the centre of everything you do for them, check out your Induction training.
How would you feel if someone came along and gave you a wash without checking with you that it was ok? Do something without consent and it could be deemed to be abusive.

SteadySue, surely that wouldn't always be the case in examples of dementia and self neglegt then wouldn't it lead to your duty of care.??

hello,
Then you would need to look at Mental Capacity. If someone has capacity to make informed choice then they have the right to refuse support or care. This is why care plans should be written properly with as much involvement from service user as possible.
