Hi Joan,

That's great, thanks.
The more people offering advice and asking questions on the forum the better resource it will become for people training within the care industry.

warm regards

NVQ's are vocational awards and evidence for them is gained from your day to day work.
To do level 2 you need to be working as a care assistant in the care sector.
NVQ's are awards of competence not a training.
All the basic training you need should be done in the workplace.
This training provides you with the necessary skills and then NVQ's are awards that say that you are competent at a certain level
To complete level 3 you need to be a more experienced carer with more responsibility in the workplace for example, being involved in care planning or with medications. You need to be in this role to be able to provide the necessary evidence.
To be able to completee your Registered managers award you need to be in a management post to be able to provide the necessary evidence from the work you do .
I hope this gives you the information you need concerning NVQ's.
please ask further questions if you need more information

NVQs are quite simple really. Its the jargon that confuses people! It als is a great tool to promote practice within work places because the units and the element PC's represent best practice and what should be happening. NVQ assessors/centres could save themself alot fo work by simply telling candidates what pieces fo evidence they are looking for on the whole. A good assessor will then look at any other additional pieces of work a candidate can produce on top of this.

Hi Joan,
I have just started my NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care - Adults. I am struggling to make a choice on the optional units. There are so many units and I am getting confused. Do you have any advice or ideas which can help me make a proper decision. I work in a nursing home and am a Senior Health Care Assistant and act as an assistant to Registered Nurses.

Ethel
