Hi I have just finished my NVQ4. I woukld like to go on and do the L & M course. I have been told I won't need to do it all just some of it as my NVQ will cover some. Can you tell me if this is correct. Thanks

Some units directly cross over but that only amounts to two optional units I think from memory.

There are some common themes betwen the two awards e.g. health & Safety, POVA, Personal development. Therefore your NVQ 4 HSC award could be used as APEL.

If you work in a registered scheme and are a manager then it is a requirment to have L & M or RMA or NVQ 4 Management (look at standards for other management qualifications). If you are a deputy there is no requirment.

It is probably worth looking your organisations policies and also thinking about it for your upcoming annual appraisal and supervisions. So make a case for doing it.

Thanks for the info James. Although I am a manager my unit is not governed by CSCI therefore there is no need to have RMA or equivalent, because of this my organisation will not pay towards any qualifications at all. I had to pay £1,400 myself to do my NVQ. I am hoping if I don't have to do the whole L & M it might be cheaper.

A friend of mine is confused about which qualifications she would need to do to be a depty manager. She did not know weather to do her Level 4 or leadership and mangement award. Also to be a manager of a nursing home do you need both qualifications

To be a deputy manager, each organisation has their own requirements for qualifications. Some state NVQ 3 HSC and I have seen some say NVQ 3 Management. Alot also say willing and able to study towards an NVQ within 12 months.

Personally speaking, I find Level qualifications in any management role of more benefit than level 3. However, you need to be able to collect evidence and be observed for the units at level 4.

I can understand frustrations when you do not get backed by your place of work and end up paying for it yourself. I think I have spent £3500 on several NVQs.

To eb a manager of a nursing home...if it is registered as a nursing home, then you need to be a RGN. If it is residential then NVQ 4 HSC and Management NVQ 4/ L & M

YOu can also claim back your LMC through Skills for Care, they do pay back for most units awarded. YOu will need to get the form from Skills for Care, and get your assessor to sign the form for you following completion to verify.
I too am funding the LMC, and intend to claim most if not all of the costing!!

LSC/Skills for Care.. you have to get the forms from them, then complete, get your assessor to sign off each unit, as only some are funded. Its mainly employers who can claim back the funding, this applies for L2, L3, L4 LMC/RMA.

Contact ur regional team who will email you over the paperwork, its abit long winded but worth it if you get something back!

Hello all,

Confused of Surrey here. I keep reading on here about LMC. Now,last year I completed my Leadership & managment in health & social care award, LMA !. Those of you who are refering to LMC do you mean LMA ? I am also looking to change jobs, so as I have been looking around on recruitment sites in social care I have seen jobs advertised for managers with NVQ4 or LMA, and yes I have also seen LMC in job profiles as well. Are these two seperate NVQ qualifications ?
Can I also say the reson I was put forward to do the LMA is because I am a registered Nurse, (RMN) Therefor did not need to do NVQ4.

One more question, is the LMA or LMC (Which ever one) recognised in Australia ? Does anyone know ?

BTW I am so glad I have discovered this site, its great !!

Regards to all.
