Hi,

People perception of their symptoms often relates to their past experiences or whether they are in denial about their diagnosis or whether they want to keep it from their family, not wanting to distress them. They may have had past good or bad experiences of death in their family and want to block certain things out. They may not have enough information to understand their symptoms and therefore are afraid to mention them or don't think they are important.
