Aims & Objectives of the CQC Workshop

The aim of the workshop is;

To enable participants to develop strategies for their workplace which will enhance the organisations ability to continuously improve and raise standards.

By the end of the workshop participants should;

• Understand and interpret the current regulatory and legislative framework
• Identify areas for improvement
• Be able to develop and plan for continuous improvement and compliance

The Workshop

The day begins with a look at the Legislative Framework, Regulations and associated Code of Practice. This is followed by group work looking in depth at a number of Regulations along with evidence requirements. Using information from inspections, we identify what takes your service from “good” to “outstanding”.

One of the most important sessions of the day is highlighting all the recent and ongoing changes in legislative requirements. The outcome of this session identifies how these changes will impact your organisation and its services, this includes areas such as recruitment and selection, safeguarding, quality assurance, non-compliance and enforcement. This interactive session is revised for every workshop to keep everyone up to date with the very latest changes in the Health and Social Care sector.

Areas Covered Include:

Managing and working in a regulated environment is a demanding and complex task. Keeping up to date with regulatory and legislative changes is almost a full time job in itself, that’s why W&P’s workshops are designed to be clear and concise so that the learner is able to critically appraise their roles and responsibilities to continuously improve their performance.

The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) (Regulations 2014).

On 1st April 2015 Regulations came into force regarding Health and Social Care in England. These Regulations form the basis of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection regime, assessing services by asking the following 5 questions;

• Are they safe?
• Are they effective?
• Are they caring?
• Are they responsive to people’s needs?
• Are they well-led?

This Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 came into force on April 1st 2015. This means that across all 28 regulated activities there continues to be a common legislative framework for Health and Social Care. This Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and the Care Quality Commission (Registration) Regulations 2009 set out requirements for providers and registered managers. They include the Fundamental Standards – the standards below which care must never fall.

There is, in addition, a Code of Practice issued by the Department of Health “Code of Practice on the Prevention and Control of Infections and related Guidance”, updated January 2015 which forms part of the legislative framework.
