Back in January, the government announced the launch of an independent, cross-party commission to recommend reforms to the adult social care system. This commission has been set up to look at the current issues in Social Care and develop a strategy to deal with current and future care needs.
The current government made a pledge in their election manifesto to introduce a ‘National Care Service’. What this means in practice remains to be seen.
The commission’s work will be conducted in two phases. The first phase, reporting in 2026, will identify critical issues and propose medium-term improvements. The second phase, reporting by 2028, will address the longer-term structural issues of the existing system to avert the ever-increasing social care crisis in England.
W&P will monitor this work and provide further updates to our customers as they arise.
The current care regulations expire in March 2025
First of all, DON’T PANIC you haven’t missed anything!
The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 is set to expire on 31st March 2025. The current expiry date is already an extension of the previous expiry date of March 2022
Given there is no replacement legislation being passed through parliament, it is very likely there will be announcement made very soon for a further extension by the government. Given the work of the newly formed commission is not due to complete its report until 2028, I think it’s fair to say there will be no changes to the existing regulation until 2029/30 but as your trusted policy provider we will monitor this closely. We will continue to provide updates to your policies so its very important to check that your W&P policy update subscription service is up to date, if you are not sure please email us at info@wandptraining.co.uk
