As far as possible in the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to remember that life goes on. We may be in lockdown but this enforced period of social exile might give us the one thing we all seem to lack: time. Time to think. Time to reflect. Time to look back. And time to look forward.
Although exemptions from this process are obviously made for frontline workers and the many home-schooling, home-working parents, who would benefit from any spare minute they can grab, for the rest of us, it is an opportunity to pause and assess where we are and where we would like to be.
Perhaps it’s even time to think about becoming a social care provider – and to start turning those thoughts into action.
Remember, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) remains open for business.
All the guidance you need to research and plan your new business is available on its website, including how to register. And yes, even in these difficult circumstances, the CQC is still encouraging applications, although it is currently limited to online applications only.
Not unexpectedly, the CQC is particularly keen to hear from you, as a new provider, if you have a particular skill or quality that may help in the response to COVID-19.
When we get anywhere near back to normality, the current stretched and stressed base of providers will need to be strengthened, if future outbreaks of the virus (or similar) are to be more effectively managed and mitigated – especially as the sector continues to face additional challenges, including continued funding uncertainty and the impact of post-Brexit restrictions on movement of workers.
With such uncertainty hanging over the sector, one thing is sure: the more good quality and competent social care providers and managers we have in the system, the better we will be able to face whatever is coming next.
To support those of you that thinking of becoming a new provider and applying for CQC registration, we have extended our special price on Start-up Packs. We are also available at the end of a phone or email to give advice and provide you with the necessary support.
